CycleStreets 1.3 Out Now

The latest update to CycleStreets is out now. We've done some significant work on improving the user interface for plotting routes in the directions screen as well as adding a quicker tap destination and find directions from my current location option on the home screen. I would really appreciate your feedback on this change and whether it improves things or not. Here is the full changelist:

WHAT'S NEW
1.3
- Improved the accuracy of the GPS
- Draw location accuracy around my location dot
- Fix for missing submit button in feedback form on some devices
- Reworked the route plotting and added "tap to add waypoint"
- Navigation and UI improvements on navigation page

A hotfix release will be available soon to fix OpenCycleMap overlays displaying OpenStreetMap overlays instead.

As always we really do appreciate your feedback especially if you use the app regularly. I'm fixing things that annoy me when using the app but it is great to get feedback from other users. If you think the app is perfect as it is then don't forget to rate us 5* so other cyclists can find us easier. Thanks!

Score Alerts 2.0 In Development

It started as a simple update to add the new Windows 8.1 features to Score Alerts but it's turning into a much larger project. Score Alerts 2.0 will introduce an all new Live Score Centre with a live news ticker, live league tables and scores (plus scorers) from around the leagues. The attached image is just a preview of what's to come (this is still work in progress so excuse the slightly messy layout in places) as we're also improving the team pages, adding latest football news, more leagues and teams plus some new Windows 8.1 features. Keep an eye on here for more updates

The fury of the 99p app buyer

99p Stores

What can you buy for 99p? Unless you frequent your local 99p store for all your belongings then not a lot. What you could get is CycleStreets for Windows Phone of course and if you are endowed with a Windows Phone I strongly encourage you to do so. It was releasing this app that started me wondering. At what point did 99p become a price point that raises so much anger?

The reviews for CycleStreets are currently mostly positive but on our first tentative release into the store this wasn't the case. Here's an example. Usernames removed to protect the guilty:

"Absolutely useless for cycling as neither national nor local cycle routes are shown on the map. The user interface is confusing and poorly thought out and the routes generated are the wrong way round. I would not release junk like for free, especially when it is less effective than the mobile website, but to ask even 99p is an insult to Windows Phone users."

CycleStreets 1.2 available now

After much waiting and complaining in the reviews for the app, we are now able to provide map overlays in Cyclestreets. As great as they are for providing offline mapping and 3d imagery, the built in Nokia maps just don't provide enough detail when it comes to cycle routes so now you can add overlays from OpenStreetMaps and OpenCycleMaps. These show more useful information such as the National Cycle Network and points of interest appropriate to cyclists like bike shops. OCM maps also show the elevation of roads so you can see if the road will take you up a big hill. Send us some feedback or comment on the article if you have any feedback or suggestions for future versions
